University of Ghana refutes Joy FM’s GHC11 Million graduation fee misuse claims, clarifies medallion delay

Must Read

The University of Ghana has dismissed allegations circulated by Joy FM and JoyNews that it mismanaged over GHC11 million in graduation fees without providing medallions and scroll holders to graduates.

In an official statement, the University clarified that the actual expected amount from graduation fees is GHC7.88 million—not GHC11 million, as reported. Each graduate pays a GHC500 fee, which covers essential services such as gown rental, congregation publications, souvenirs, water, and administrative costs.

While acknowledging a delay in distributing medallions and scroll holders, the University attributed it to procurement issues and assured graduates that these items would be provided at the appropriate time. It also noted that this delay had been officially communicated to students on February 10, 2025.

Describing the reports from Joy FM as “sensational” and “misleading,” the University urged the public to rely on its official communications for accurate information.

“The University remains committed to upholding the highest standards in all its operations, including the organization of graduation ceremonies. We assure our graduates that every effort is being made to deliver the outstanding items promptly,” the statement read.
